This
superb course is currently rated number 5 in Europe and second
only to Valderrama in Spain.
Designed by Javier Arana in 1968 the course has retained its
original layout despite recent improvements in golf technology
Twelve holes of the course meander through pine groves, and
then six holes are laid out links style through the dunes,
along the coastline with punishing rough. A truly excellent
course.
It's main natural hazard is the sandy soil that on a number
of occasions during the round shows on the borders of the
fairways, becoming one of the player's worst enemies.
Without doubt, a highly challenging but hugely enjoyable golf
course. El Saler was the venue for the 2001 Spanish Open.
